Designer Spotlight: Felipe Cerpa

Drawn to design from a young age, Ashton Woods’ Felipe Cerpa found a natural fit in the interior design world as an adult. Today, he’s a senior interior designer, staging model homes in Ashton Woods communities across seven different states.

We chatted with Felipe about his love for design and his advice for new homeowners as they create their own style.

How did you get into interior design?

Since I was a kid, I was always rearranging the furniture in my room or any room around the house just for fun. It wasn’t until many years later that I discovered I enjoyed making a space feel functional yet aesthetically pleasing, so I decided to start a career in interior design.

Which model home has been your favorite to design/decorate?

The Cobe Model at Waldsanger in San Antonio. I had the opportunity to put a little of my personal style into it and the freedom to let my creativity flow while designing some of the rooms.

Which room in a home is your favorite to decorate and why?

It’s hard to pick just one room when I get to merchandise an entire house, but I would say lately dining rooms have been a space I put more detail into. Just like the kitchen, it’s the second most important space in the house where people get to gather and share time together.

Outside of design, what are your hobbies and interests?

I like to explore new cities, try out new restaurants, go on family trips, work out, do outdoor activities and see my favorite artists in concerts.

Where do you find creative inspiration?

I find inspiration during my travels, especially when I travel abroad.

What’s your favorite Ashton Woods Collection and why?

I really love the Sapphire Collection. Blue is one of my favorite colors and the cabinet color is the perfect shade of blue, especially combined with the brass finish of the lighting and plumbing fixtures.

How would you describe your own personal style?

I would call my personal style a combination of Scandinavian and Transitional with a little industrial touch. I love the mix of different wood and earth tones as well as the black and white contrast.

What are one or two key tips you’d give Ashton Woods homeowners for decorating their new space after move-in day?

I would say to focus first on the essentials, like the main rooms and furniture pieces that would be used the most. Once those pieces are in place, start to add your personal flavor with artwork, family photos, collectibles from travels and unique decor that has value to you, so the space starts to feel like a home.
