Ashton Woods Expertise

Designer Spotlight: Claire Shaw

Growing up, Claire Shaw spent her days on construction sites, watching her mom bring clients’ visions of home to life as an interior designer. So it’s no wonder that today, Claire follows in her footsteps as principal designer at Ashton Woods, helping families build homes they love. We asked Claire about her design inspiration and her tips for those building new homes.

How did you get into home design?

My mom is an interior designer, so I grew up on construction sites. I learned so much and fell in love with it as well!

What’s been your favorite thing to work on at Ashton Woods?

Meeting with new clients and the day-to-day collaboration with them!

Outside of design, what are your other hobbies and interests?

I love spending time with my family and being outdoors. Going on hikes or spending time out on the lake. I also love to travel, but that has been a bit harder with a 16-month-old.

Where do you find creative inspiration?

Fashion, travel and Instagram.

What is your favorite Ashton Woods home model and why?

My favorite model right now would be the Avalon Model in La Cima. The Avalon is my favorite floor plan. I love a single-story home, and the wine grotto with the studio utility is by far my favorite feature!

What’s your favorite Collection and why?

The new Luxe Collection is currently my favorite. I absolutely love the sage green cabinets with the gold accents.

How would you describe your own personal style?

My personal style is a bit boho. I love mixing new and old pieces together. I also love artisan and handmade tiles as well as bringing in texture to a space.

One of the most exciting parts of buying an Ashton Woods home is that homeowners get to personalize their design. What design advice do you have for buyers as they build their new home?

Your home should be an extension of your own personal style, so pick what you love!

What are one or two key tips you’d give homeowners for decorating their new space after move-in day?

Take your time and find pieces that bring you joy. I also think it helps to design room by room instead of all at once. Focus on one area at a time. For example, start with your living room first, then move on.
